TAKING A BITE OUT OF LOVE They met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, and now Sarah Michelle Gellar, 24, and Freddie Prinze Jr., 25, know what they'll be doing for years to come — at least romantically. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star moved into Prinze's Spanish-style house soon after they began dating early last year.

RAISING THE STAKES Prinze surprised Gellar with an engagement ring designed by Cathy Waterman in April. "He was a little nervous, very sweet," says Waterman. "He is completely smitten." SLAYING THE DEMONS The two have thrived despite painful pasts. Gellar's parents divorced when she was seven, and the actress has no contact with her father; Prinze was just 10 months old when his father, Chico and the Man star Freddie Prinze, committed suicide. "They understand each other really well," says one friend of the couple. THE LOOK OF LOVE Gellar has influenced her fiancé's clothes for the better, observes stylist Phillip Bloch. "Freddie had this California-surfer look before he and Sarah became a couple," he says. "Now he looks like a star. A lot of that is because of her." MR. MOM "When I have kids, I'm not [going to] work," Prinze said earlier this year. "If my girl wants to work, I'll hang with the kids and cook and clean. We're both rich, so it doesn't matter." READY FOR THEIR CLOSE-UP The couple reteams in next year's Scooby-Doo, but their biggest collaboration will be their wedding. No date's been set, but it's clear that commitment agrees with Prinze, who has said, "I've never been happier than I am today."
